Living Water
The waters of life can be treacherous. When we embrace what is and open our hearts to the Spirit's transformation, suddenly what was fearful becomes life-giving. Within each person is a font of living water just waiting to gush forth into deeper aliveness. I have had the good fortune of working with people all across the globe to facilitate transformation in individuals, couples, groups and organizations.
About Billy Daniel, Ph.D.
I am a husband and father, passionate about personal, spiritual and relational growth and development. I am also a writer, educator, couples and family counselor, and leadership/personal coach.
Born and raised in South Carolina, I wandered to Nashville, Tennessee after high school to attend Trevecca Nazarene University, where I fell in love with learning and exploring habits and practices to draw people into deeper aliveness.
This love of learning took me to Vanderbilt and Duke Universities for grad school, and then across the Atlantic to the University of Nottingham, England, for doctoral studies. Part of my journey led to becoming an Episcopal priest, and I have served in a variety of capacities since my ordination in 2012. My wife, Amanda, and I have two adult children, a recent college graduate and one still in college. We live in Knoxville, Tennessee.
As a Public Priest, I love every opportunity to help people grow as humans—as spiritual beings fully alive, and to facilitate this growth by sharing how I have grown and moved through the challenges of life. I believe with Satish Kumar that, "A time of crisis is a time of opportunity." The places where I have struggled and stumbled have been the places of greatest learning. More than advice, I offer wisdom and questions from my own struggles and failures in becoming human.

At Made for Aliveness, we believe that central to human nature is the truth that each person is made of God—divine at our core. What is original to humans is the goodness of God. To become fully alive, each person needs only to live into reality this truth of our aliveness in the Spirit.
What often prevents us from experiencing this inner reality—this truth of human nature, are institutional structures and cultural constructions that harden our hearts and shackle our imaginations. We are taught and conditioned to perceive ourselves and others as fallen, self-interested animals. This self-fulfilling prophecy has led humanity into degenerative divisions throughout history, which has carried over into today.
Pause and consider the wonder of creation—the majesty and splendor all around. Notice the longing deep within for what is honest, lasting and true. This inner longing is within all things. It is a longing to be whole—to become fully alive.
Made for Aliveness is an organization made up of those who intentionally commit to this sacred Way of our inner nature, whether Christian or otherwise. Through small groups, retreats, personal coaching, counseling, spiritual direction and more, participants orient in heart, soul, mind, and strength to the life that really is life.
